Aqua Pennsylvania Reservoirs at Capacity for the Start of Summer Season

May 21, 2009

BRYN MAWR, Pa., May 21, 2009 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Aqua Pennsylvania, Inc. (Aqua) announced today that its impoundment reservoirs in southeastern Pennsylvania are at full capacity as the company heads into the Memorial Day weekend, the unofficial start of the summer season. Aqua operates five reservoirs in southeastern Pennsylvania, which hold approximately 10 billion gallons of water.

"With the unofficial start of the summer season just a couple days away, we want our customers to know that our reservoirs are full and ready to supply their domestic and recreational water needs," said Aqua's Chief Environmental Officer Preston Luitweiler. "The summer is our peak demand period, and we have plenty of water ready to serve our customers when demands normally increase due to lawn watering, washing cars and outdoor recreational activities that involve water."

"Although we had below-average rainfall early in the year, our reservoirs have been full since the first week of May. The benefit to having impoundment reservoir storage is that it allows the capture of water when it is plentiful for use when it is most needed. Although we have ample supply for the summer, we always want to remind customers not to waste water and to remember that it is a limited resource," Luitweiler added. "We want customers to use the resource responsibly."

Aqua provides water and wastewater services to approximately 1.4 million people throughout Pennsylvania, including 1.3 million people in Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, Bucks and Berks counties. It is the largest subsidiary of Aqua America, Inc., a U.S.-based, publicly traded water and wastewater utility holding company, which serves approximately three million people in 13 states.
