Nicholas Debenedictis Named Chairman of the Pennsylvania Business Roundtable BRYN MAWR, Pa. - April 14, 2000--Nicholas DeBenedictis, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Philadelphia Suburban Corporation (NYSE:PSC), has been elected Chairman of the Pennsylvania Business Roundtable.

He is the first utility executive to hold the statewide post. DeBenedictis succeeds James E. Rohr, President of PNC Financial Corp., who is finishing his two-year term.

The Roundtable's policy committee, which consists of the executives of the state's largest businesses, elected DeBenedictis to the two-year term of chairman where he will lead the organization in its quest to promote business issues and economic development throughout the state.

The Pennsylvania Business Roundtable has made great strides to enhance the business climate in Pennsylvania and in turn, stimulate the state's economy, said DeBenedictis. I am extremely proud to be part of this important organization and look forward to my term as chairman.

Since 1979, the Roundtable has been developing public policy in areas such as education, economic development, health care and the environment that will help Pennsylvania businesses compete in the world economy and provide a high quality of life for the state's citizens. The organization currently has 51 member companies - each represented by its respective CEO.

DeBenedictis serves as Chairman of PSC, one of the nation's largest investor-owned water utilities. Prior to joining PSC in 1992, he spent three years as Senior Vice President of Corporate and Public Affairs for PECO Energy, a $4 billion nuclear utility. In addition, DeBenedictis held the position of president of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce.

He also served in two cabinet positions under Pennsylvania Governor Richard Thornburgh from 1979 to 1986: Secretary of the Department of Environmental Resources and Director of the Office of Economic Development, and was a senior official with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

DeBenedictis received a bachelor's degree in commerce and engineering and a master's degree in environmental engineering and science from Drexel University. He serves on the board of directors for many regional businesses, economic, environmental and academic organizations and has received numerous awards for public service.
