Essential Utilities Social Commitment

Social responsibility – for life.

Essential, through Aqua and Peoples, has more than 250 years of combined experience in operating sustainably and responsibly. In fact, our commitment to socially responsible operations is rooted in our mission to provide natural resources for life.

Our responsibility starts with the fundamental processes and procedures we have in place to deliver safe and reliable water, wastewater and natural gas services. At Essential, we constantly strive to innovate and improve our processes and infrastructure in order to actively contribute to a cleaner environment.

In addition, Essential remains committed to rebuilding our nation’s aging infrastructure through critical investments, significantly reducing the release of natural gas into the atmosphere and preventing water loss and waste from leaking pipes. And we ensure treated wastewater goes back into rivers and streams cleaner than when we took it into our water plants. These efforts ensure continued reliability for our customers and allow communities to thrive economically.

Essential also prioritizes efforts to be active in the communities we serve. Through the hands-on work of our volunteer program, donations from our Essential Foundation, our leadership at community and civic organizations, and our stewardship of natural resources, Essential is deeply entrenched in our communities throughout our 9-state footprint. Each year, Essential makes a lasting impact by donating more than $4 million and providing thousands of hours of volunteer service to charitable organizations who work to improve the quality of our customers’ lives. The value of giving back is core to who we are as a company and as a team of more than 3,000 dedicated community members. Click here to view our Community Impact Report.

In 2022, Essential launched Essential Earth Day, a month-long, corporate volunteer and charitable donation effort to celebrate Earth Day and highlight the company’s year-round commitment to environmental stewardship.
